In the high-stakes world of investments, where split-second decisions can lead to vast gains or losses, AI’s ability to process enormous datasets and identify patterns seems almost magical. AI-powered tools can analyze market trends, historical data, and news events to predict market movements with unparalleled precision. For retail investors, AI offers personalised investment advice, portfolio management, and enhanced customer service through chatbots and virtual assistants.

The appeal is evident: AI promises to streamline operations, reduce human error, and uncover investment opportunities that might otherwise go unnoticed. A report by UK Finance noted that over 90 percent of its members have already deployed AI in some capacity, underscoring AI’s perceived benefits.

The issue of AI risks in investment services has also drawn attention from the G7 countries. G7 leaders have agreed on guiding principles on AI and a voluntary code of conduct. These initiatives aim to complement the EU's forthcoming AI act. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has urged AI developers to adopt the code promptly. The G7 will revisit this topic later this year.
